This study was undertaken to find out the correlation, if any exists, between the outcome and the histopathology of the antecedent hydatidiform mole. Materials came from the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital. There were 119 cases of hydatidiform mole that were eligible for the study, and these were re-classified according to the WHO definitions into partial and complete hydatidiform mole. The results show that all partial moles recovered while complete moles proceeded to trophoblastic tumour in 23.2 percent after a follow-up of six years. The study supports the concept that the outcome of hydatidiform mole can be predicted from the morphological-histopathological appearance of the hydatidiform mole and that partial mole rarely, if ever, proceeds to trophoblastic tumour. Recommendations are given for better accuracy of classification and/or reporting of hydatidiform moles, which may be of value in prognostication and plan of therapy.
